Zayed National Museum Opens Its Doors to the Public

The Zayed National Museum, the national museum of the United Arab Emirates, welcomed its first visitors on Wednesday, marking a significant milestone in the cultural landscape of the nation. Situated in the Saadiyat Cultural District, the museum invites guests to embark on a journey through the rich history of the UAE, tracing the timeline from the earliest signs of human habitation to the various civilizations that have influenced its cultural identity. The museum also acts as a cultural link among the seven emirates, highlighting their interconnected heritage. The museum is dedicated to the memory of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the UAE, whose dedication to cultural preservation, education, and national identity is a central theme throughout the exhibits. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn how Sheikh Zayed's vision continues to influence the values of knowledge, openness, and community within the nation. Housing over 1,500 artefacts across six permanent galleries, the museum features a diverse array of archaeological finds, historical objects, audiovisual displays, sensory experiences, and contemporary installations. The visitor experience begins in the expansive 600-meter outdoor gallery, Al Masar Garden, and progresses through various galleries that celebrate Sheikh Zayed’s life, the UAE’s natural landscapes, and the extensive history of human presence in the region, with archaeological evidence dating back 300,000 years. These exhibits collectively illustrate the factors that have shaped Emirati identity, including geography, innovation, trade, and spirituality. In celebration of its opening, the Zayed National Museum will host a special program titled "Deep Roots and Everlasting Legacy," which will run until December 31. This initiative includes a series of performances, workshops, and cultural activities designed to engage visitors with the UAE’s heritage and cultural expressions. The program aims to connect audiences of all ages through music, dance, and storytelling, fostering a deeper understanding of the nation’s history. Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, emphasized the museum's role in narrating the evolving story of the UAE and its people. He noted that the museum serves as a unifying space for citizens, residents, and visitors, reflecting the shared narrative of the land and its inhabitants. Furthermore, he highlighted the museum's potential to inspire future generations of Emirati professionals in the fields of curation, history, and conservation, thereby contributing to global cultural dialogue. Designed by the renowned architect Norman Foster of Foster + Partners, the museum's inauguration signifies a new chapter in the UAE's cultural legacy and concludes an extraordinary year for the nation, which has also seen the openings of teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi and the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi, along with the reopening of Al Ain Museum in the Al Ain Region. The museum's retail shop, Al Nagwa Boutique, offers a selection of gifts and souvenirs inspired by its themes, while dining options include the signature Erth Restaurant, Al Ghaf Cafe, and the Garden Cafes.
