The United Arab Emirates has announced an increase in petrol prices for December 2025, following a period of slight reductions in the previous month.
As of December 1, the prices for various fuel categories have risen, marking a shift from the previous month's adjustments. The cost of filling up a vehicle has become slightly higher compared to the same time last year, with E-Plus 91, Special 95, and Super 98 all reflecting increased prices. In contrast, diesel remains marginally less expensive than it was a year ago.
In December 2024, the price of E-Plus 91 was recorded at AED2.43 per litre, while diesel was priced at AED2.68 per litre. Currently, E-Plus 91 is priced at AED2.51 per litre, indicating a slight increase over the past year. Similarly, Special 95 has risen from AED2.50 to AED2.58 per litre, and Super 98 has increased from AED2.61 to AED2.70 per litre.
The new prices for December 2025 are as follows: E-Plus will cost AED2.51 per litre, up from AED2.44 in November; Special 95 will be AED2.58 per litre, an increase from AED2.51; Super 98 will be AED2.70 per litre, rising from AED2.63; and diesel will now be AED2.85 per litre, up from AED2.67.
The fluctuations in fuel prices in the UAE can be traced back to the government's response to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, when petrol prices were frozen to stabilize the economy. However, in March 2021, the government lifted these controls as global oil prices began to rise, allowing market dynamics to dictate fuel pricing once again. Additionally, changes in crude oil prices on the international market continue to play a significant role in the adjustments of petrol prices within the UAE.
