Nationwide Crackdown on Residency and Labour Violations in Saudi Arabia

In a significant enforcement initiative, Saudi Arabian authorities have apprehended over 21,100 individuals within a week, reflecting a heightened focus on addressing violations related to residency, labor, and border security throughout the Kingdom. The extensive inspection campaigns took place from November 20 to 26, encompassing all regions of Saudi Arabia. These efforts aimed to ensure adherence to the established residency, work, and border regulations. During this period, officials documented a total of 21,134 violations, which included 13,138 residency offenses, 4,826 breaches of labor laws, and 3,180 infractions concerning border security. Among those arrested, 1,667 individuals were caught attempting to enter the Kingdom illegally, with a notable proportion being Yemenis and Ethiopians. Additionally, 31 people were detained for attempting to leave the country unlawfully, while 14 others faced charges for facilitating the transport, shelter, or employment of violators. Currently, 31,091 expatriates, consisting of 29,538 men and 1,553 women, are undergoing procedures related to the enforcement of relevant regulations. Authorities have instructed 22,071 individuals detained for violations to reach out to their respective embassies or consulates to secure the necessary travel documents. Furthermore, 5,078 individuals were advised to arrange their departure, and 11,674 have already been repatriated. The Ministry of Interior has emphasized the seriousness of facilitating illegal entry or providing assistance to violators, warning that such actions could result in severe penalties, including lengthy prison sentences and substantial fines. The ministry also indicated that vehicles and properties involved in these offenses may be subject to confiscation, categorizing these actions as major crimes. To bolster public cooperation in maintaining security and upholding the rule of law, the Ministry has encouraged citizens to report any suspected violations through designated emergency numbers, underscoring the importance of community involvement in these efforts.
