Google has initiated the construction of a significant artificial intelligence hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, with an investment totaling $15 billion. The Google Cloud India AI Hub, in collaboration with AdaniConneX and Nxtra by Airtel, is envisioned as a private cloud and data center network operating at a gigawatt scale across three campuses near the port city. The investment is scheduled to unfold between 2026 and 2030, representing Google's most substantial infrastructure commitment in India. The hub will integrate hyperscale computing, subsea cable connectivity, and operations linked to clean energy.
The foundation stone for the project was laid on April 28, 2026, by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, alongside various dignitaries, including Union electronics and IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Google’s global infrastructure vice-president Bikash Koley. This announcement follows Google's earlier declaration in October 2025 regarding Visakhapatnam's selection as the site for its first gigawatt-scale AI hub in India. The facility is expected to span approximately 600 acres across locations such as Tarluvada, Rambilli, and Adavivaram, with operational launch anticipated around September 2028.
The hub aims to support a range of AI workloads, including enterprise cloud computing and data-intensive digital platforms. Its strategic location on the east coast is expected to enhance subsea connectivity, facilitating international cable landings that will improve bandwidth and reduce latency, thereby strengthening connections between India, Southeast Asia, and global cloud regions. AdaniConneX will oversee key aspects of data center construction and power infrastructure, while Nxtra by Airtel will focus on data center development and fiber connectivity.
