Completion of Key Substation for Aramco Stadium

The Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) has announced the successful completion of a vital power transmission substation for the Aramco Stadium, located in Al-Khobar. This stadium is one of the 15 venues designated for the upcoming 2034 FIFA World Cup in Saudi Arabia. The SEC emphasized the importance of this substation in bolstering the energy infrastructure necessary for significant projects and ensuring that facilities are adequately prepared for international events. The newly constructed substation is designed to enhance the stability and efficiency of the power supply to the stadium, thereby ensuring its operational readiness during sporting events and peak demand periods as the country progresses in its preparations for the World Cup. The project involved the establishment of a 115/13.8-kV substation, which is connected to the power grid via over 2.4 kilometers of underground cables. Additionally, it incorporated advanced protection and operational systems, including supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) and communication systems, to ensure reliable performance. The completion of this project took 18 months and adhered to the approved technical and regulatory standards. It was executed by National Grid SA, the organization responsible for managing Saudi Arabia's electricity transmission system, under the oversight of the Saudi Electricity Project Development Company. Furthermore, the SEC noted the involvement of national engineering and technical teams throughout the design, execution, and commissioning phases of the project. This participation reflects the increasing capabilities and expertise within the local power transmission sector, contributing to the overall development of the country's infrastructure.
